FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is your process?
We discuss your project goals on zoom or by phone prior to the shoot to determine what shots are important, and what design elements you would like highlighted to create a set of images that best represents your project and your brand. At the same time, the goal is to visually communicate the story of how the space is used, how people interact with it, and how it feels to be in that space.
How do you prepare for a shoot?
I take time to understand the goals of my client and their expectations for their shoot.Because every design is unique, I carefully consider what gear to bring. By this time, I have extensively reviewed the shot list and utilizing lighting apps, I understand how the sun interact with the space.
Do you bring lights?
I use a combination of natural light and strobes and in some cases ambient.
Can I see the images in real-time?
Yes. I shoot tethered to an iPad, so we can view the scene “live” and adjust the composition, furniture, objects or people. This use of technology maximizes location efficiency because we can do this in real-time instead of waiting for images to download.
What is your post-production process?
I post a library of low-resolution images for clients to choose from within one week from the shoot date. Once the selection has been made, which includes one complimentary round of revisions, the final images will be delivered as high-resolution files within 2-3 weeks or less.
Some clients prefer I choose the images for editing and others prefer I upload the “proofs” for selection. After image selection, I edit the images by manually blending multiple exposures in Photoshop, taking the best parts from each exposure to create one final image. Using this technology and my skilled eye, I have complete control and can add or subtract light, objects, people, etc. I also color correct, straighten, and adjust the highlights, shadows, and contrast. I can also add grass, clean up pavement, remove unsightly blemishes, etc. It is not uncommon for the post-processing to consume as much time as the photo shoot or more. Some retouching are add-ons.
Do you prefer to work alone?
I am comfortable working alone and have clients who give me a shot list, and I take it from there. But I enjoy collaborating on location with clients and other creatives and experiencing their unique vision and perspective.
Can you work without a shot list?
I do work without them, but a shot list ensures I am capturing the angles and images the client wants. Still, even with a shot list, I will offer suggestions as we engage in the creative process together.
Do. you offer drone or video services?
Yes. I have worked with the same trusted team for years and am confident in their abilities.
Can you hire models, stylists, and hair and makeup artists?
Yes. I work with a select group of professionals on smaller shoots and with agencies on larger shoots to source these skilled creatives.
What are your prices? Do you offer cost sharing?
My prices are based on a full day and rarely a half day which varies according to the size and scope of the job. With the pertinent information, I can prepare a detailed, customized estimate. I do offer cost sharing, which is a great way to maximize your budget. Other design professionals such as builders, manufactures, stone masons, architects, interior designers, cabinet makers, tile makers, landscape designers, etc., basically anyone who would like to use the images for their own marketing purposes, can share in the cost of a project with all parties splitting the final fee.
Do you travel?
Yes. I love to travel and have been hired for photography assignments, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
One final thought:
Customer service still matters! I go all out for my clients. I offer personalized service and care as much about that aspect of my business as I do about the images I produce. I view photography and the entire experience as a collaboration with both of us working together to translate your work and vision, into high quality imagery.
